3 Days in Monte Carlo

If seeing the best of southern France is your dream trip, then a river cruise on the Rhone River from Port Saint Louis to Lyon on the Scenery of Avalon Waterways will be one of your best options.

I would love to recommend the Incredible 7-night River Cruise from Port Saint Louis to the fascinating city of Lyon, right through the heart of Burgundy and Provence.

There is no better way to start this fascinating river cruise than to have a 3-night pre-cruise extension in the jewel of the cote d'azur and the Mediterranean; Monte Carlo.

And if you’re willing to go that far. Then there is no better place to stay than the most revered of all locations; the magnificent Fairmont Hotel.

The Fairmont Monte Carlo seats in front of the famous curve on the course of the Formula 1 - Grand Prix of Monaco.
At the top of the Fairmont is the famous “Billionaire’ Sunset Lounge” overlooking the curve on one side and the best view of the Cote D’Azur that money can buy with its million dollar yachts on the other.

With all its glamour, sophistication and class as you’re walking on the streets of Monte Carlo you will see on one side the multimillion dollar yachts and on the other a variety of Ferraris, Maserati, Rolls Royse and few others less fancy like BMW, Mercedes and Porsches.

Any street in Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo is a place of its own class.
It is by far the best of the French Riviera, and as we climbed to the top of the hill to see the village of Eze, tour a perfume factory and stood on the side of the Palace, looking down to the bay we knew we were in a very special place.

Monaco Palace Changing of the guard

We saw the Changing of the Guard at the Prince’s Palace and had our share of world-class people-watching in Monte Carlo’s Casino Square, walked the Formula One Grand Prix circuit that runs through the city and took our chance and won (500 Euro, thank you very much) at the famous Casino Monte Carlo.

After three incredible nights in Monte Carlo, we went south towards the Rhone River to embark on our ship, The Scenery.

But that will be another story
