According to research conducted by MBO Partners, 18.1 million U.S. citizens are officially digital nomads, or roughly 11% of the total American workforce.

That’s a stunning number in itself, considering that, prior to 2020, the concept of remote work was restricted almost exclusively to IT and certain niche fields of entrepreneurship.

The primary goal of these individuals is to be location-independent while earning a living, and many of them have an innate passion for traveling, and you’re likely to find them anywhere the sun is shining, and the cost of living is low, from Mexico, to Spain, to Thailand.

Be that as it may, an equally significant percentage of American nomads are quite happy city-hopping in their own neck of the woods and aren’t exactly keen on relocating to a foreign country.

One U.S. city in particular has in fact tripled its digital nomad population since 2019, charting ahead of long-time faves for tech-savvies like Austin and San Francisco.

Miami Is America’s Top Nomad Hotspot Right Now

Florida’s most popular beach destination, Miami is America’s leading nomad hub right now, leading not only in numbers, but in public opinion:

According to this other Hostinger analysis, it is the best home base for digital nomads craving a change of scenery while keeping it somewhat ‘local’.

Miami has excelled not only in the ‘freelance income potential’ category, thanks to its thriving economy and myriad of career opportunities, but also its big selection of coworking spaces.

It has a well-established cafe scene that puts it on a par with New York, Chicago, Seattle and the like, and wherever you are in the sprawling coastal metropolis, you’re never too far from a laptop-friendly eatery serving delicious daytime brunch to keep you going.

Think a cozy The Cafe At Books & Books in Coral Gables, a solid pick for overcoming that persistent writer’s block if you’re an independent writer—free WiFi, floor-to-ceiling shelves stacked with books, timeless wooden furniture, and an intellectual vibe throughout.

For a livelier environment and a quick 30-minute inbox-clearing sesh powered by strong coffee, we love Magdalena in Edgewater, and if you feel a light breakfast in an airy, soft-lit space will get you to boost your productivity, try Little Haiti’s Panther Coffee.

A Vibrant Culture & Social Scene

Speaking of Little Haiti, it is one of Miami’s most vibrant ethnic neighborhoods (one of many!), boasting a high concentration of Caribbean-style restaurants, creative murals covered in street art, and quirky indie galleries.

The local Caribbean Marketplace is particularly great for finding local produce if you’re staying in Miami a while, as well as buying Afro-Caribbean handicraft.

Over in Little Havana, the heart of Miami’s Cuban community, you’ll stumble upon an equally fascinating cultural scene, from Calle Ocho, lined with cantinas and walk-up windows selling Cuban cigars, to the busy meeting point that is Maximo Gomez Park.

Then there’s South Beach, or how we like to call it, quintessential Miami, with its historic charm—you’ve probably never seen this beautiful collection of pastel-hue, Art Deco facades anywhere—cosmopolitan feel, and active nightlife

If you’re wondering where to go for some fun on a Friday night, Ocean Drive’s where it’s at.

In sum, there is plenty about Miami and its diverse communities that will keep you inspired and get your creative juices flowing when you need them most.

High Quality Of Life & No Visas Required

As MBO Partners have concluded, Miami also scores well in monthly living costs: though it is the gateway to Latin America, by no means does it share the nether subcontinent’s cheap prices, but life here doesn’t have to be expensive to be enjoyed.

In fact, nomads will spend an average $2,200-$2,800 per month, in line with other Floridian cities, and tourism hotspots across America, and somewhat cheaper than the average for places like New York and Chicago.

Rent is truly the one thing that will nab the greatest chunk of your income, particularly if you’re keen on living in a trendy Wynwood, or a Bohemian Coconut Grove—on the other hand, grocery prices are reasonable, and there is plenty of affordable dining options around.

Another one of Miami’s undeniable appeal for American nomads is the fact it is a domestic destination boasting pleasant weather and white-sand beaches.

Americans don’t need to apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (commonly shortened to DNV), worry about entry and stay regulations, or for God’s sake, even have a passport when choosing Miami as their new temporary hub: this is the United States, after all!

Latin America, Europe and Asia are great, but have you tried qualifying for one of those hard-to-get DNVs, or living on constant visa-runs to avoid breaking immigration law?

Lastly, this is the closest you can get to being in a tropical location Stateside, as temperatures here vary from 62°F to 90°F during the year, and they rarely fall below 50°F.

As a local coworking space founder Karla Rodriguez has added, ‘Miami offers what nomads crave most’, namely the infrastructure for productivity, coupled with ‘endless opportunities for rejuvenation’: in other words, it offers great quality of life.

While most Americans venturing south of the border will find themselves in Cancun, Cabo, or Mexico City, there’s another historic city that’s becoming far easier to reach this year.

Better yet, it’s on very few travelers’ radars, so you don’t have to deal with the headache of tourist crowds and inauthentic experiences.

Not only will travelers have 4 U.S. airports in total to choose from, but also 3 different airlines, including American.

Boasting Old World charm with centuries-old structures, San Luis Potosi is a sight to behold not only for its timeless treasures but its relatively undiscovered natural attractions too.

Best of all, this under-hyped city is one of Mexico’s safest destinations, making it all the more enjoyable to explore now that there are more ways to get here.

Why Visit San Luis Potosi?

Mexico used to be solely viewed as a beach destination by Americans, but Mexico City has since soared to new heights.

Following suit, places like Guadalajara, Guanajuato, and Oaxaca have become popular city breaks in their own right.

Some travelers have felt they’ve worn out their welcome in Oaxaca and Mexico City, in particular, as overtourism concerns have been well-documented.

When it comes to Mexico’s hidden gems, there’s more authenticity, better prices, and less crowds standing in your way,

San Luis Potosi certainly fits the mold. Not only can you explore charming cobbled streets and historic marvels, you can score the luxe Hilton San Luis Potosi for just $87 this spring.

The one must-see in the city center is the unmissable San Luis Potosi Cathedral, which has been anchoring the vibrant cityscape since 1593.

There are numerous postcard-worthy plazas to wander while you’re here, such as Plaza Fundadores and Plaza de Aranzazu.

Whatever you do, don’t leave without trying Bocoles or Enchiladas Potasinas, a pair of regional favorites.

Waterfalls & Vivid Lakes: Discover San Luis Potosi’s Natural Attractions

To most, Mexico is a mix of paradisal beach towns, culturally rich cities, and a handful of no-go zones.

While this is certainly true, what people sleep on is Mexico’s astounding nature aside from the aforementioned beach havens.

You might not think of Mexico as the place to go chasing waterfalls, but San Luis Potosi is just the place, actually.

La Huasteca Potosina is home to cascading falls like Tamul Waterfall, and crystal-clear rivers, swimming holes, and breathtaking cave systems.

There are ample tours to book from the city. Ruta Huasteca Expediciones is rated #1 on TripAdvisor.

New Volaris Flights

I might be a little biased since I live close to the border, but Volaris is one of my top go-to’s for cheap flights, especially since it seems they run insanely cheap sales every month.

Mexico City-based Volaris connects almost anywhere in Mexico, but they are slowly but surely expanding their presence in the U.S., giving Americans the opportunity to explore what seems like uncharted territory for the average traveler.

According to their website, Mexico’s top low-cost carrier just announced 30 new flights, but the most exciting ones connect a trio of Texas cities to San Luis Potosi (SLP).

Volaris is launching new flights from San Antonio (SAT), Houston (IAH), and Dallas (DFW) in July, with expected service three times per week for SAT and IAH and four flights per week for DFW.

New Aeromexico Flight

If you haven’t heard of Volaris, that’s okay. Surely, you’ve heard of Mexico’s flagship airline, Aeromexico.

Following Volaris’ unintentional Southern theme, another city from the South is getting a direct flight to San Luis Potosi.

Beginning June 5, 2025, Aeromexico will begin operating daily flights to SLP from Atlanta (ATL).

If you’ve never flown with Aeromexico before, know they are a SkyTeam member, making connections via Delta easy peasy.

U.S. Airlines Flying To San Luis Potosi

While Volaris and Aeromexico may be gaining the attention with new flights, American Airlines and United Airlines are the only U.S.-based carriers offering direct flights to SLP.

For what it’s worth, both of these Mexican airlines are deemed safe; otherwise, they wouldn’t have clearance for American skies.

But earning points can be tough, especially for Volaris. In that case, going with United or American is surely your best bet, given that they currently offer flights from Dallas and Houston, two of Volaris’ new destinations.

Traveling to Europe in winter is not an idea that appeals to most people:

It’s cold, for sure, daylight hours are limited, especially up north, and across many countries, locals are not exactly at their most welcoming selves––can you really blame them when it’s 23°F out?

Like everything in life, there is always an exception to the rule: in this case, not the freezing temperatures, but how exciting, lively, and welcoming a city can be despite the bleak weather, or more interestingly even, as a result of it.

Believe it or not, Stockholm is the perfect city break during the festive break, ranking the highest for friendliness across the pond, according to Condé Nast Traveller, and offering a fairytale-like winter experience (with the medieval Old Town and fascinating History to go with it).

It’s far from being a sunny getaway, but it might as well melt your heart:

Discover Sweden’s Colorful Medieval Capital This Winter

The capital of Sweden, Stockholm is built across 14 islands distributed around an archipelago on the Baltic Sea, all connected by as many as 50 bridges, an extensive underground system––which we’ll get to in a bit––and multiple ferry routes.

With a population of over 1.6 million people, it is the largest city not only in Sweden, but the whole of Scandinavia, so it can feel a little overwhelming at first, with so much to see and so little time, but if you’re visiting this winter, a good place to start is Gamla Stan.

Swedish for ‘Old Town’, this centrally-located island is famous for its cobbled streets and skinny, ocher-colored houses dating back centuries.

It’s true Stockholm is kinder to sightseers in summer when it’s (somewhat) pleasant out, and there’s more sunshine compared to the rest of the year, but we’d argue winter is when it’s at its most magical:

It is the friendliest city in Europe, as per the latest survey conducted by Condé Nast Traveler, where it scored an impressive 94.07, and indeed, walking into any bakery or restaurant or asking locals for directions, you’ll be greeted with politeness and a hospitable smile.

Maybe it’s the mysa spirit, maybe it’s the fact you can never get grumpy with a happy tummy full of cinnamon buns from Café Saturnus, the pride and joy of Stockholm’s coffeeshop scene; either way, Swedes are ready to welcome you with open arms.

And you know what they say, there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing:

It’s So Beautiful You Won’t Mind Being Outside

Stockholm is meant to be seen on foot, and you’ll be spending a lot of time outside.

Temperatures range from the mid-20s to low 40s in winter, and this is the Baltic Sea, after all, so it gets windy––definitely make sure you wear enough layers to protect yourself from the teeth-chattering cold and don’t hold back on the mulled wine and hot choccie.

Warning given: don’t miss a snow-dusted, 13th-century Storkyrkan Cathedral dominating the skyline, the majestic Kungliga Slottet Royal Palace, the official residence of the Swedish Royal Family––yep, they have one of their own, in case you didn’t know!––and the spearing, red-brick City Hall.

For unashamed wintery fun and an overload of culture, make sure you pay Skansen a visit: a short ferry ride away from the city center, this is Stockholm’s world-famous folk park, depicting life in a rural part of Sweden as if it was still the olden days.

Add to that winter markets filled with stalls, offering a wide range of products, from fine smithing and ceramics to Swedish street food faves like sausages and pickled herring, and historical celebrations with traditional music and dance, and you get the gist of it.

Escape The Cold Underground

Stockholm is hella cold this winter, and while there’s definitely some sightseeing to be done, and the freezing temperatures shouldn’t keep you from exploring the picturesque Gamla Stan, you can always take refuge in one of many indoor attractions:

Check out Moderna Museet, a vast collection of modern and contemporary art housing lesser-known work from artists like Matisse and Picasso, or Vasa, a museum entirely centered around a well-preserved, 17th-century warship.

The ABBA Museum is another must-do while in Stockholm, a thrilling exhibit (and celebration) of Sweden’s greatest musical act, and don’t forget about the often-overlooked Stockholm Metro:

‘Wait, the metro?’

Yes, the metro.

Forget about London’s dirty tube seats and the rampant pickpocketing plaguing the Paris underground: Stockholm’s is a literal gallery of surrealist art, with stations that have ceilings that look like boiling lava or spaceships and any other creative design in between.

We’re not talking about one or two stations: each of them has a particular, individual characteristic that sets them apart, with bright colors or psychedelic patterns, and the metro system itself is considered the world’s longest art gallery.

Now that the hassle of Thanksgiving and Black Friday have died down, winter plans are in full force.

As your electric bill continues to spike as you put your heater to good use, a better way to splurge is to book a sunny getaway.

How about an often-overlooked Texas coastal city with easy flight options, 70-degree beach days, and 100 miles of shorelines?

While many travelers flock to Florida as their beach destination of choice, you can experience fewer crowds and cheaper stays in one of the South’s most underrated escapes.

Corpus Christi is a vibrant city with a fascinating history ranging from pop icon tragedies to military might.

Better yet, the coast is a never-ending playground for all things beach-related: lounging, fishing, camping, you name it, or simply bringing the whole crew along for a warm winter vacation.

Corpus Christi‘s Surprising Urban Treasures

If you’ve never visited Corpus Christi, you may be surprised to find a towering skyline and revamped downtown district.

Those who’ve never paid a visit have probably heard of Corpus, but it’s often discussed as a small town.

That’s not the case. Over 300,000 people call this underrated beach haven home with 3 major airlines serving Corpus Christi International Airport.

Multiple downtown hotels have been given new life as well as a laundry list of new businesses slated to open.

No longer is downtown Corpus an urban ghost town; there’s plenty to see and do. Of course, you can’t explore downtown without taking a nice stroll along the 1.5 mile long ‘Seawall‘ lining Shoreline Blvd.

While downtown doesn’t boast the region’s nicest beach, it’s a great starting point at the very least. Overlooking Corpus Christi Bay, you can’t help but notice numerous Navy ships, which may pique your interest in touring the U.S.S. Lexington Museum ($20.95 admission).

This captivating ship is just scratching the surface of Corpus’ attractions as you can also visit:

• The Art Museum of South Texas
• Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History
• South Texas Botanical Gardens
• Tejano Civil Rights Museum

Most notably, however, would be the Selena Museum, a tribute to the life of Corpus Christi’s very own Selena, a world-famous pop star tragically killed in her hometown in 1995.

100 Miles Of Shores

If you’re trying to narrow down your vacation options, let this be a selling point – 100 miles of shores.

Some more remote and spacious than others, there’s no question you’ll find a beach that matches your vibe.

If you drive to Corpus or rent a car, there are multiple beaches allowing vehicles with a permit. One of many reasons why both Mustang Island State Park ($7 admission) and Padre Island National Seashore ($10 admission) are the most popular beach getaways around here.

One that’s a sleeper, however, is JP Luby Beach – home to soft white sand, great surfing conditions, and evening campfires.

Although, a secret beach town beloved by Texans statewide is nearby Rockport. Offering a mix of small-town charm, historical sites, and idyllic coastlines, booking a Gulfside vacation rental here is never a bad idea.

Great Food And Affordable Stays

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and you’ll quickly see why when you dine out. It

It’s no different in Corpus, except the Texas-sized portions you’ll find are more of the seafood variety than quintessential barbecue and Mexican food.

Not to mention Texas’ favorite burger chain, Whataburger, which started right here in Corpus. There’s even a replica of the original storefront you can snap a selfie with.

As great (and humungous) as their burgers may be, my favorite eatery to pig out is Fajitaville.

Just as it sounds, order fajitas beachside at what’s essentially the ‘Fajita’ version of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville (but there are no ties).

And after you delight your tastebuds in Corpus’ delicious food scene, you’ll need a place to relax and recharge.

With its unruffled golden sands stretching for miles on end, delectable cuisine, and friendly locals, Mexico remains a no-brainer vacation for Americans in the winter. But listen, we get it if you’ve had enough of Cancun, Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, and the like.

As great as those may be, they’ll be jam-packed this season, not to mention prices will be soaring through the roof, but there’s a silver lining for those who dream of relaxing by the seaside, and all-round excellence in hospitality without breaking the bank.

Ladies and gents, Acapulco is back in business, hosting nonstop flights from the States––so much the better for us budget travelers!

Cabo’s Predecessor Still Has A Lot Going For It

One of the liveliest coastal cities in the Mexican Pacific, Acapulco is set on a wide bay fringed by soft, golden sands and azure waters, lined with high-rises and luxurious condominiums, and backed by the imposing Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range.

With a population of over 658,000, it is one of the largest conurbations of the Guerrero state, as well as a tried-and-true resort destination made famous by the jet set trend of the 50s and 60s, when Hollywood stars would flock here for their vacations.

It has since been overtaken by Los Cabos, but that’s not to say it’s lacking in glitz and glam, particularly now that it’s fully recovered from the hurricane season, hotels are open and services fully operational, and most importantly, security is improving.

Security Levels Are Improving

Despite its stellar 20th-century start, not that long ago, Acapulco had become a no-go zone for Americans traveling in Mexico due to the surging crime and gang activity––it’s still far from being a low-risk destination, but surveillance has increased significantly:

Just this week, authorities have deployed not only more police, but also the Navy and even Mexican Armed Forces units to ensure crime is tackled, with Rodolfo Escobar Ávila confirming officers will be patrolling ‘along the coast in all areas of Acapulco’.

We don’t know yet how much safer Acapulco is right now compared to the previous years––we might have to wait until the season has officially started to start making comparisons––but the increased demand might be proof tourists feel reassured:

Travelers Feel Confident Booking Acapulco Vacations Again

This winter, American Airlines is returning to the Guerrero hotspot, with the first flight from Dallas-Fort Worth having landed on November 11, officially inaugurating the season, following many months of severed connectivity.

As Dr. Abelina López Rodríguez, the Mayor of Acapulco has stated, this is a direct result of recent investments and the expansion of hotels in the area, as well as a sign passengers and airlines alike feel confident in investing their money in the destination.

Most of the municipality has already made a full recovery from the havoc Hurricane John wreaked earlier this year, and as noted previously, authorities seem to have taken a page from Cancun’s guidebook and are now taking security concerns more seriously.

Nonstop Flights To Acapulco Are Back From These U.S. Hubs

Back to the flights themselves, American will fly between Dallas (DFW) and Acapulco weekly, every Saturday, until September 2025. There will be a two-month pause in September and October before the flights resume in November 2025. One-way fares will start at only $250.

Meanwhile, United Airlines is offering flights to Acapulco from competing Texas hub Houston (IAH), operated every Saturday and available weekly throughout the high season as well, with one-way tickets set at $311.

Other than the plethora of beautiful beaches catering to a diverse crowd, from professional surfers to casual swimmers and families, with Condesa, Pichilingue, Mahajua and Caleta Beach to name a few, Acapulco’s greatest appeal is its inexpensiveness:

Five-Star Stays In Acapulco Are Dirt Cheap!

All-inclusive stays and luxury resorts are much cheaper here than in the country’s most sought-after beach zones: for instance, an overnight at the 5-star Hotel Amares will set you back by only $128 this January.

Moving up, the beachfront Las Brisas is just as economical, with a ‘casita’ with shared pool priced at $129, and if you really want to splurge as you’ve been saving up for the occasion, the landmark Palacio Mundo Imperial Diamante Acapulco costs $236 to book per night.

It is one of the most upscale resorts in Acapulco, but it’s worth noting that, at that price, you don’t get an all-inclusive getaway––if that’s what you’ve been hoping for, room rates then bump up to $398-a-night at the same resort.
