Get ready, Oklahoma City! In a thrilling first for Will Rogers World Airport (OKC), American Airlines has just announced a groundbreaking new route. Starting November 8, 2025, Oklahomans will have direct access to the sun-drenched beaches of Cancun, Mexico (CUN) thanks to a brand-new, Saturday-only nonstop service. This historic announcement marks a major leap forward for the city, finally connecting Oklahoma City directly to an international destination for the first time ever.

End of Connecting Flights for International Travel

If you lived in Oklahoma City or nearby, getting to an international destination usually meant dealing with connecting flights through bigger airports. But that’s about to change! This new nonstop service to Cancun is a game-changer for Oklahomans wanting to travel abroad. No more frustrating layovers – this direct route will slash travel time and make things so much easier, whether you’re heading to the beach for vacation, planning a family getaway, or a business traveler needing to get there efficiently. You can bet local leaders and the community are thrilled, seeing this as a huge step forward for the city and its connections to the wider world.

Mayor Holt Celebrates “Historic Moment”

“To finally welcome a nonstop international flight to Oklahoma City for the first time in a generation is a historic moment for us,” Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt said in a news release. “This milestone is a testament to our city’s renaissance, as well as a reflection of our willingness to invest in ourselves. This would not have been possible without the vision of our airport leadership to construct the necessary facilities and their persistence in marketing this opportunity to the carriers. Our gratitude to them, as well as American Airlines.”

American Airlines Utilizing Boeing 737 Aircraft

You’ll be flying on a Boeing 737 when you take American Airlines’ new route from Oklahoma City to Cancun. American picked this plane to give everyone a comfy and reliable ride. Since it’s a Saturday-only flight, it’s ideal week-long adventures, giving you the chance to get away to Cancun’s sunny beaches and lively atmosphere. This service runs every Saturday from November 8, 2025, to April 4, 2026.

Its allure lies in its stunning white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and rich Mayan history. Years of Effort Culminate in International Service

The launch of this inaugural international route is the result of dedicated efforts spanning several years by the Oklahoma City Airport Trust and various local stakeholders. Their collective goal was to enhance the capabilities of Will Rogers World Airport and attract international carriers. A crucial step in realizing this vision was the recent completion of a Federal Inspection Station at the airport. This new facility is essential for efficiently processing international passengers and handling customs procedures, thereby paving the way for airlines like American to introduce international services.

Tickets on Sale Soon

Tickets for the new nonstop Saturday service from Oklahoma City to Cancun will go on sale starting Monday, March 31, and can be booked directly through the American Airlines website.

Airports Director Highlights Community Partnership

“We are excited American Airlines will be offering international flights to Cancun this winter,” said Airports Director Jeff Mulder in the news release. “American Airlines is a great partner, and we appreciate their support of OKC and our community. We are nearing completion of our customs facility, which will allow this new international service to become a reality. This type of new international nonstop service elevates OKC to a new level and offers our travelers another quality-of-life improvement.”

This new route marks a significant chapter in the history of Will Rogers World Airport and promises to bring the world closer to Oklahoma City.

Ancient history, rich culture, and some of my favorite food in Europe. The reasons for visiting Athens this summer are endless.  

And now we’ve got one more reason to add to that list: A new budget nonstop flight from LAX straight to the City of Wisdom.  

This will be the only nonstop route between Los Angeles and Athens, making it easier than ever to visit this iconic Greek hub.  

A New Route For Norse Atlantic  

Norse Atlantic will operate this new nonstop transatlantic flight and will offer the budget fare options that the brand is known for.  

If you’re not familiar with Norse Atlantic, they’re a relatively new Norwegian low-cost airline, having only been founded in 2021. This isn’t the only transatlantic flight from Los Angeles operated by Norse Atlantic. They already fly nonstop from LAX to London, Paris, and Rome. 

The new route to Athens will launch on June 3^rd 2025 and will operate 4 times a week with fights on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Giving sought-after flexibility to your travel dates.  

Flights are already available to book now, so I did a little research to see how much they would cost.

Flying out on Friday, 6th, June, and returning on Friday, 13th, June, will cost $372 for the outbound flight and $236 for the inbound flight, giving a total price of $608.  

It’s worth noting that for roundtrip flights, a discount of up to 20% is applied, so these prices will be a little higher if you only want to fly one way for whatever reason.  

As is always the case when you choose a low-cost airline, the price will increase if you want any extras. The prices above are based on the cheapest ‘economy light’ tickets, which give you one personal item and one carry-on bag but don’t include any checked baggage. 

You will also be the last to board and won’t receive an in-flight meal if you select this ticket. This may be tricky when the outbound flight will take 12 hours 40, and the inbound flight will take 13 hours 30!  

To upgrade to an ‘economy class’ ticket, which includes an in-flight meal service and one checked bag, will cost an additional $72 each way at the time of writing.  

Why Visit Athens?  

Athens is often referred to as the cradle of Western Civilization, and if you have any interest in mythology, art, or history then there’s nowhere better to visit.  

One of the first things you should do in Athens is visit its many archeological wonders. The Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus often attract huge crowds of tourists, but for good reason. They’re spectacular and well worth exploring.  

Make sure you allow for plenty of downtime, though: Greek hospitality is legendary, and although the ingredients are simple, there’s no such thing as a simple meal. You’ll find that you’re encouraged to take your time when eating, and the service is so warm and attentive. Eating out in Athens is an experience!  

In fact, the people in Greece are one of the main attractions of the country for tourists. They’re warm and welcoming, and because the Greek economy relies so heavily on tourism, they’re genuinely pleased to see you.  

Whether you’re buying souvenirs or lost and asking for directions, expect big smiles and warm conversation.  

Of course, you can’t visit Greece without going to the beach, and Athens is well-connected to several highly regarded beaches. Edem Beach in Palio Faliro is a free-to-enter beach in the Athens Riviera and incredibly easy to get to from the city center.  

Want to explore a little further afield? As well as being well worth visiting in its own right, Athens is also the gateway to wider Greece.

Head to Athens port, and you’ll find regular boats to the islands of Aegina, Spetses, Poros, Hydra, and Andros.  

At just a 40-minute ferry ride away, Aegina is the closest Greek island to Athens and is a popular weekend getaway for locals. If you’re looking for a day trip or a short break, this is a great choice.

Delicious food, rich culture, and iconic landmarks. It’s no wonder so many American travelers dream of visiting Italy.  

Whether you dream of sailing in a Venetian gondola, marveling at the Colosseum in Rome, or sipping cocktails on the Italian Riveria, there’s an Italian escape for everyone. And next summer, Italy will be easier to get to than ever.  

American Airlines has announced an Italian summer and revealed details of 2 new nonstop flight routes.

Nonstop From Chicago To Naples  

American Airlines will launch a new nonstop route from Chicago to Naples. This service will begin on May 6 of next year.  

This isn’t the first American Airlines route to Naples, but it will be the only route from any airline between Chicago and Naples for the summer of 2025.  

Tickets for this route went on sale on November 4, so I checked to see how much you’ll have to spend if you’re planning a Napoli summer!  

On this route, you can expect to pay $1,334 for an economy class roundtrip flight departing on May 12 and returning on May 19.  

If you’d prefer to travel during the high summer season of August then a flight from August 11 returning August 18 would cost $1,375.  

This is also for an economy-class roundtrip flight, meaning the difference in flight prices between the high season and the shoulder season is negligible.  

Nonstop From Dallas-Fort Worth To Venice  

Good news for Dallas residents: American Airlines will also offer its first nonstop flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Venice next summer.  

American already offers nonstop flights to Venice from Philadelphia, but this will be the first time they’ve connected Dallas to the floating city. This new daily service will begin on June 5.  

Tickets for this route are already on sale, so I got an example price for departure shortly after the flight launch date.

Departing on June 16 and returning on June 23 would cost $1,408. This is based on a nonstop return economy class flight.  

During the August high season, the same flight would cost $1,061.

This is based on a nonstop economy class flight departing on August 16 and returning on August 23.  

Showing that sometimes the best way to save on flights, especially during the high season, is to book well in advance!  

An Italian Summer  

When it comes to embracing the Dolce Vita and enjoying an Italian summer, you’ll be spoiled for choice.  

American Airlines have also announced that their new seasonal flights from Miami and Philadelphia to Rome will now depart on June 5 instead of July as first announced.  

Giving options to explore Venice, Naples, and Rome.  

As well as being a tourist attraction in its own right, Naples is also the gateway to the Amalfi coast. This coastline offers some of the most stunning scenery in Italy and is home to picturesque villages and high-end beach resorts.  

But don’t miss Naples completely. The Archaeological Museum here houses one of the world’s largest Egyptian collections (outside of Egypt, of course). It’s the birthplace of pizza. And its close to Naples and the famous preserved city of Pompeii.  

Venice needs no real explanation, but it’s a city everyone should experience at least once! The floating city famed for its canals and gondolas, you can wander over endless ornate bridges and explore the incredible architecture here.  

Venice has its own unique kind of magic. It’s like a romantic and fascinating living museum.  

Don’t miss the iconic cathedral Saint Mark’s Basilica, and take a batobus or a water taxi to the nearby islands of Murano and Burano, each of which has its own personality and is just as charming and fascinating as Venice itself.
